Vizyon News News Manager Umut Uçar had a pleasant interview with Sevda Poyraz, the author of The Last Deceit Book

Umut UÇAR : What was the starting point of your book? How did you decide to write this book?

Sevda POYRAZ : I have always scribbled something since my primary and middle school years, even in the 7th grade of middle school, I was the second in the province. I continued to write. I read many books with the dream of writing a book while continuing to write. Of course, I gained experience over the years. Then I started to write this story as if I had reached the last stop of a long journey and it was time to let the passenger off. The February 6 earthquake changed many things in my life, and this earthquake was also effective in my decision to write a book. As someone who lived through the earthquake; I survived this disaster, but I had never felt so close to death. That’s why I decided not to postpone anything afterwards. I always wanted to leave behind a work from me anyway and so I started my work. I can say that this was the starting point of my book.

Umut UÇAR : Which theme or message stands out the most in your story?

Sevda POYRAZ : I cannot say that I focused on a single theme, but in general, the “Woman theme” dominates my book. I touched on the issues of the woman’s effort to find her place in society, the woman’s fight with the woman, her struggle with the man, her search for answers to the questions she asks herself on her life journey, where there is both hope and disappointment. Of course, there are not only women in The Last Delusion; the chatty taxi driver, the bagel seller uncle, my neighbor Müzeyyen will also keep the pulse of the society we live in.

Umut UÇAR : How was the writing process for you? Did you encounter any unexpected difficulties?

Sevda POYRAZ : I faced many difficulties during the writing process of my book. Most of all, I hesitated over the subjects I wrote about, because I am sure this subject has been written many times. Sometimes I even tried to stop writing, but I was so involved in the events that I was constantly talking to the characters in my head. It was inevitable for me to write and complete the story. Even though the subject is very familiar, these were my sentences. I would like them to read it once from me.

Umut UÇAR : What inspired you to create the main character of your book?

Sevda POYRAZ : The journeys I took, the women and events I met on these journeys were effective in the emergence of my main character. I added something from every woman I talked to to my character. The people on the street where I live also contributed a lot. They don’t know about it, but my main character met many of them.

Umut UÇAR : What kind of feelings or thoughts would you want readers to leave this book with?

Sevda POYRAZ : Of course, I cannot say that the reader should leave this book with this or that feeling and thought. But the thought I want to give in general; you strive for something, you set out on the road, and when you see that it doesn’t work, change that road. Because who knows what there is on that new road you will take.

Umut UÇAR : How was writing a book a personal experience for you?

Sevda POYRAZ : Expression is the beginning of liberation. Writing is my best form of expression. Writing this book was not just creating a story, it was like a transcript of the questions I asked myself, the emotions I tried to make sense of, the knots I could not untie. I can say that I found my own echoes in these pages. I will see in time what I can do and what I lack thanks to this first book.

Umut UÇAR : Are there any other projects or articles you are planning in the future?

Sevda POYRAZ : At the moment, I haven’t drawn the road map yet, but I have two ideas. One is a novel based on real life, which I have been thinking about for a long time and I want to concentrate on writing. Another one is to write a children’s book. I don’t know where I will evolve in the future, but one thing I know is that I will never give up writing. I wish the readers of The Last Delusion a good reading.

Umut UÇAR : Finally, what would you like to say to our readers?

Sevda POYRAZ : I would like to thank you and your entire team for giving me this opportunity. I wish all our readers good reading.
