Serpil Kazoluk, Chairperson of the Republican Enlightenment Party (Republican Party), made an important assessment regarding the statement of Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), that “the phrase ‘The State of Turkey is indivisible with its country and nation’ in the Constitution should be changed”. Kazoluk harshly criticized Kurtulmuş’s proposal and emphasized that such attempts targeting Turkey’s national unity and solidarity are unacceptable.
“Our Constitution is Sacred and cannot be changed”
In a press statement, Serpil Kazoluk stated that opening the constitutional foundations of the Republic of Turkey to discussion would harm national unity and said, “Our Constitution is a sacred text. These articles, which reflect the founding will of the Republic of Turkey, are the basis of our country’s existence. The expression ‘The State of Turkey is an indivisible whole with its country and nation’ is a reflection of the common conscience of our nation and should never be changed.”
“Such proposals are dangerous and divisive”
Stating that Kurtulmuş’s proposal could have dangerous consequences for Turkey’s national security and social integrity, Kazoluk said: “Such amendment proposals may embolden those who are trying to destroy the unity of the country. Throughout history, Turkey has passed many difficult tests in unity and solidarity. This fundamental principle of our Constitution is the mortar that holds our society together. Even bringing it to the agenda to change it would harm our national will.”
“We will not compromise on Republican Values”
Serpil Kazoluk stated that as the Republican Light Party, they will fight to protect the achievements of the Republic and national unity and said, “We are firmly committed to the values of the Republic. We will never allow any compromise on the fundamental principles of our Constitution. We are determined to defend the indivisible integrity of this country.”
“Unity and solidarity are essential for the future of Turkey”
Emphasizing social peace and unity in his statement, Kazoluk said, “The most important thing for Turkey’s future is unity and solidarity. Instead of diverting the agenda with such divisive proposals, we should take steps to bring our nation together. As the Republican Light Party, we will continue to stand against such dangerous attempts.”
